Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted May. 2, 2015 at 12:01 AM Posted May. 2, 2015 at 12:01 AM » Social News May 2, 1915 TIRE VIGILANCE MILEAGE PRICE Educating the motorists up to that point where he will automatically see that his tires are always properly inflated, that his wheels are in true alignment and that every tire scratch or stone bruise is properly attended to at once is as much the mission of the makers of tires, according to C.A. Gilbert, general sales manager of the United States Rubber Company of California, as is the actual turning out from the factory of so many tires each year, and realizing this, his company has always tried to impress the owners of motor cars with the great importance of proper tire care. "Tire economy and tire care are synonymous," said Gilbert, "and the quicker the motorist realizes this, the quicker he will start to save his tire bills. "That seventy-five per cent of all tire waste may be traced to the habit of running cars on underinflated tires is the contention of expert tire men, and they further state that this cause alone is responsible for most of the tire troubles of the automobilists. "If motorists would study the construction of their tires, they would be able to intelligently apply the same care to them that they do to the rest of their cars. No sane driver would for an instant continue to drive his car after he had discovered a serious break in his motor, or any other part of its machinery. Then why will that same man ride many miles on a deflated or partially deflated tire and expect no harm to result? Such is often the case, however, and the wonder is, not that the tire goes out, but that they stand this treatment so long." 'A NAUTICAL KNOT' PROVES A SUCCESS "A Nautical Knot," the operetta given by the high school pupils under the management of Miss Inez Coffin and Ed Andrews, was a delightful surprise to all in the audience who were not in the secret. It was well staged and well sung. The principal parts were happily assigned. Miss Eifert as the haughty Julia, James Vance as the lovesick artist and Bill Salt as the genial boatswain, sang and acted with ease that showed the results of careful training.
