The Grizz boys and girls posted wins over South Medford in the SOC dual. Ashland’s boys downed the Panthers 123-79, while the girls won 124-96. The South girls received outstanding performances from senior Lynea Loeffler and freshman Nancy Hawley. Loeffler won the 200 freestyle and the 200 individual medley, while Hawley triumphed in the 100 backstroke. Both Loeffler and Hawley swam a leg on the Panthers’ winning 200 medley relay. Ashland’s Michelle Smith registered a fast time (:26.66) in winning the 50 freestyle and doubled with a victory in the 100 butterfly. Ashley Roda posted a season-best time in the 100 freestyle (1:00.90) for the Grizzlies. Wrestling CRATER IN FIRST — At Hillsboro, Crater advanced nine individuals to the championship semifinals and took the team lead after the first day of the star-studded Hillsboro Invitational, which wraps up today. The Comets are in first with 100.5 points, followed by Roseburg with 86.5 and Canby with 77.5. Four of the top seven teams are ranked among the state’s top 10 tournament teams. Crater is rated No. 1. Making the semifinals for the Comets were Tyler Weathers (103), Jeremy Firestone (112), Bryson Gutches (119), Nate Gipson (130), Chase Maloney (135), Jeremy McLaughlin (140), Ron Lee (152), Brandon Rauls (215) and Taylor Wilkerson (275). Two others, Clayton Tankersly (145) and Zane Yarnell (171), are still alive in the consolation round. Wilkerson recorded two falls to lead the Comets, who placed third here a year ago.
