The Southern Oregon Brew Festival is a big part of the equation, with more than 60 taps dispensing a remarkable selection of award-winning microbrews from the Pacific Northwest and the State of Jefferson, as well as a fierce homebrew competition. People also line up for a pie-eating contest, a grape-stomp championship, a Red Chili, Chicken Wings and BBQ Rib Cook-Off (with $1,750 in cash prizes), the Rogue Run marathon and half-marathon, the Club Calf & Heifer Show and Sale, stock dog trials and a music festival. New this year is Wildlife Images' Wildlife Olympics, which will include tortoise and hare races, a large animal ambassador tortoise, slug races where the kids become the creatures, an eagle-nest building contest, up-close animal encounters, photo opportunities and more. Hours for this year's event will be 5 to 10 p.m. Friday, noon to 8 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, with a "Growler Hour" from 5 to 6 p.m. Sunday. For details, including a complete schedule and a lineup of musical acts, see www.attheexpo.com/sectionindex.asp?sectionid=3 .
