The first fire was reported at a personal woodworking shop north of Eagle Point. Crews from Jackson County Fire District No. 3 and Jackson County Fire District No. 4 responded to the blaze, reported at the intersection of Highway 62 and the Butte Falls Highway, at 9:12 p.m. District 3 Battalion Chief Myron Harvey said five engines and two water tenders between the two agencies arrived on scene to find the detached 20-by-20-foot building engulfed in flames and smoke. Firefighters knocked down the flames in about 20 minutes. There was no threat of spread, as there were no other buildings or fuels nearby. The building and woodworking equipment and supplies inside were a total loss, Harvey said. Just over an hour later, at 10:14 p.m., firefighters responded to a fire at a garage-sized outbuilding near Jackson Wellsprings outside Ashland. Crews from Jackson County Fire District No. 5 and Ashland Fire & Rescue responded with three engines and two water tenders. Capt. Bob Holt of District 5 said the outbuilding was fully involved when firefighters arrived. They knocked down the blaze within a few minutes. The outbuilding served as a storage facility for tools and other equipment, Holt said. No one was hurt in either incident. The cause of both fires has not yet been determined.
