Whose cars are they besides the teachers? This is every day. — K.T., Central Point It takes a lot of people to run a school, K.T. In fact, Mae Richardson Elementary Principal Lynn Scott estimates that, on any given day, about 70 adults are in the building. “So 50 cars in the parking lot doesn’t surprise me at all,” she said. About 23 licensed teachers, various specialists, custodians, cooks, two La Clinica mental health therapists, full- and part-time classified employees, a school nurse on Thursdays, parent volunteers, SMART (Start Making A Reader Today) volunteers, Scott and about 550 elementary students share the building. “It’s a busy place,” Scott said. The morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up are especially busy and often create congestion in front of the school along North Haskell Street, frustrating those trying to get to work. K.T., if it’s this congestion you are referring to, take heart. Scott assured us that school district officials are working with the city of Central Point to come up with clever ways to ease that congestion.
