Two to 5 inches of snow were expected above 2,000 feet overnight, with anywhere from a trace to 2 inches falling on the valley floor by this morning, says Shad Keene, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. And because temperatures will remain below normal, "most of that snow will stick," he says. "It could be more of an impact." More than 6 inches of snow were expected east of the Cascades, so "those traveling east will run into hazardous, dangerous conditions," Keene says. Thanksgiving will be dry but bitterly cold, forecasters predict, with temperatures in the teens and 20s — about 15 degrees below normal. "People will need to take precautions," Keene says, including covering pipes so they won't freeze. Those east of the Cascades could see temperatures drop to zero, he says. At least some sun is expected to shine Thursday, barring any lingering fog, Keene says. "Good kind of weather for touch football in the backyard." Travel conditions on Thanksgiving will improve as the day goes on, he says. Rogue Valley residents saw a dusting in the hills Tuesday as the snow level dropped to 2,000 feet. Crater Lake saw 8 to 10 inches at Annie Springs as of early Tuesday evening, Keene says. Mount Ashland got 5 to 8 inches at 6,000 feet, about where the ski lodge is. Lake of the Woods saw as much as 6 inches. Updated forecasts and chain requirements for the Siskiyou Pass can be heard at 1610 AM on the radio.
