RVTD grant will pay for shuttle service A state transportation grant means more service for seniors and people with disabilities in the Rogue Valley Transportation District. RVTD officials announced Friday the organization has received a $125,334 grant under the state�s $19 million Oregon Livability Initiative that will pay for a shuttle service for some of the district�s users. The grant allowed RVTD to begin offering the Senior Shopper Express, a shuttle service that will take anyone over 60 or with disabilities shopping at nearby stores. RVTD began operating the shuttles June 12. In addition to the shuttle service, RVTD and the Jackson County Department of Human Services have joined to provide the RVTD Bus Buddy Program, which teams volunteers with elderly or disabled passengers to provide assistance with shopping. Volunteers may call 776-6164 for more information. Shuttles run weekday business hours, delivering passengers to a list of stores based on regions. Customers may call 779-7586 for reservations. Shuttles in the Zones 1, 2 and 3 all visit the North Medford Safeway, Wal-Mart, Fred Meyer, Food 4 Less, Target and Rogue Valley Mall. Additional stops by zones are: Zone 1 � Central Point/White City: Noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday or 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday Ray�s Food Place, Central Point Albertson�s, Central Point Shop-N-Kart, White City Foodland, White City Safeway, north Medford Zone 2 � Jacksonville and west Medford 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday or noon to 5 p.m. Thursday Jacksonville Market Albertson�s, west Medford Thunderbird Market, west Medford Bi-Mart, west Medford Safeway, north Medford Zone 3 � North and south Medford Noon to 5 p.m. Monday and Friday or 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday Albertson�s, east Medford Safeway, east Medford Rite Aid, east Medford Safeway, north Medford Zone 4 � Ashland, Talent and Phoenix 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday and Friday or noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday Shop-N-Kart, Ashland Albertson�s, Ashland Rite Aid, Ashland Safeway, Ashland Wal-Mart, Talent Tark�s Market, Talent Pear Tree Outlet, Phoenix Ray�s Food Place, Phoenix.
