Sherri Rose Silva, 12, died at Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford, shortly after collapsing at 1:14 p.m. School health workers, a Central Point Police community service officer and a crew from Jackson County Fire District 3 responded at once, said school Superintendent Candace Manary. It was not immediately clear what caused Sherri’s death, or whether a health condition might have been a factor. "It’s a tragedy," said Fire District 3 Battalion Chief Roger Adams, who responded to the call. Students and staff were shaken by the incident, said Manary, who planned to have counselors available today to help those who need it. "It will be handled with the utmost respect and sensitivity," Manary said. A memorial gathering is planned for 3 p.m. Wednesday at Table Rock Fellowship, 3610 N. Pacific Highway, Medford. Sherri’s parents, Frank and Teresa Silva of Central Point, indicated that students are welcome to attend. They said their daughter loved animals, especially horses, and liked computers, movies and swimming. Sherri Silva was born July 6, 1990, in Medford. She was just a toddler in 1992, when the Central Point community rallied to raise $65,000 for a liver transplant for her father. Frank Silva owns Silva’s Auto Repair in Central Point. In addition to her parents, Sherri is survived by a sister, Lisa; a brother, Chris; and her grandparents: Frank and Pat Cavin of Medford; Jim and Shirley Silva of Yreka, Calif.; and Nonnah Kennedy of Crescent City, Calif.
