Jackson name has precedent Where did Jackson Creek Shopping Center, at the corner of Jacksonville Highway and Lozier Lane, get its name and is there a Jackson Creek? -- Eve H., Jacksonville Indeed, Eve, there is a Jackson Creek, several in fact. The Jackson County version of Jackson Creek runs from the hills west of Jacksonville, through your fair city itself, along Jacksonville Highway and then along Hanley Road toward Central Point. In fact, according to the Oregon Geographic Names directory, the city of Jacksonville was named for Jackson Creek. The shopping center was also named after the creek, according to the center's developers, Gaplin and Associates. Though it doesn't run right by the center at Lozier Lane and Jacksonville Highway, the creek comes within about a half-mile. According to Oregon Geographic Names, Jackson Creek drew its name from the name of the county. In turn, Jackson County was named in honor of President Andrew Jackson, a popular figure among the gold miners who settled the area. As we mentioned, there are several Jackson Creeks in the state, including waterways in Douglas and Tillamook counties as well as one that runs through Washington and Multnomah counties.
