Brian Allen Vosburgh, 19, emerged from his house in the 8100 block of 25th Street at about 5 p.m. and surrendered to members of the Medford Police Department’s SWAT team, which used a bullhorn to order him from the residence. Vosburgh was lodged in the Jackson County Jail without bail. His father, Duane Scott Vosburgh, 45, and mother, Cheryl Denise Vosburgh, 38, went to jail along with their son. Both were arrested on charges of interfering with a police operation and hindering prosecution, said Jackson County Sheriff Mike Winters. Each was being held late Thursday on $9,000 bail. At about 1 p.m., a Jackson County sheriff’s deputy on a routine patrol of the area spotted Vosburgh going into the house. Knowing the teen was wanted for an alleged probation violation, the deputy went to the front door and tried to arrest him, Winters said. Vosburgh’s parents, who were home at the time, refused to allow the deputy inside. Winters said Duane Vosburgh threatened to harm police before he left the home with his wife. Advertisement "We made numerous attempts to negotiate with the parents," Winters said. "(Duane) Vosburgh threatened to use weapons . . . He let his dogs out and closed the gate. "He said that if we came on his property, he would shoot somebody." Duane Vosburgh was arrested after police caught him trying to walk back onto the property through a nearby field, Winters said. Cheryl Vosburgh was preparing to do an on-camera interview with a local television reporter about 200 yards from the home when deputies arrived in a patrol car and took her into custody following a short scuffle. She screamed out that a deputy had struck her on her left cheek and confiscated a video camera she had used to document the incident. "This is totally excessive," Cheryl Vosburgh said before her arrest. "They’ve been harassing our family for years." Winters said the SWAT team, which arrived in three armored vehicles, was called because of the possibility that Brian Vosburgh had access to weapons. Cheryl Vosburgh said all of the firearms in her home were inside a locked gun cabinet. "(Brian) made a statement that he thought we were going to go away," Winters said. "We weren’t about to go away." The standoff forced the closure of the White City Boys and Girls Club, which is located about a block away from the Vosburgh home. The club’s assistant director, Dave Gomez, said more than 100 youngsters between the ages of 6 and 17 were bused to a nearby school for the afternoon. "We had to evacuate because it’s so close," Gomez said. "We took all necessary safety precautions."
