Wild horse sale set for Tuesday By PAUL FATTIG Wild horses and burros will be put up for adoption Tuesday through a televised auction that can be viewed from home or at the Bureau of Land Management's Medford District office. Displaced by devastating wildfires on federal land in Nevada last fall, the nearly 140 animals will be up for bid starting at 10 a.m. Bidding starts at $125 per animal. The animals include 120 wild horses and 10 burros in Nevada as well as eight saddle-ready wild horses in Riverton, Wy. Viewers at home can tune in on the C Band Satellite, Galaxy 3, Transponder 18. The viewing at the BLM office at 3040 Biddle Road in Medford will be via a satellite downlink. To participate in the auction being broadcast nationally by Superior Livestock Auction based in Fort Worth, Texas, individuals must pre-qualify at their nearest participating BLM office and provide a $125 deposit. They must also obtain a bid number from the BLM. Anyone adopting a horse or burro from the BLM must be at least 18 years old, an American citizen and not have any convictions for inhumane treatment of animals. They also must have or arranged for adequate facilities to provide for the adopted animal. The saddle-ready wild horses must be picked up in Wyoming, but the BLM will deliver the other animals to one of eight pick-up sites nearest the high bidder for each animal.
