Sophomore Zeth Brower (106 pounds), senior Tommy Winningham (170) and senior Cavin Gillispie (182) all won their quarterfinal matches, along with Eagle Point senior Bryan O’Neil (138). The Comets are 12th out of 24 teams with 61 points. Roseburg leads with 105.5 points, followed by Crook County (102) and Redmond (94). Eagle Point is 21st (29) and North Medford 22nd (28.5). The fourth-seeded Brower pinned Glencoe’s Marques Chan (seeded fifth) in the quarterfinals in 3 minutes, 24 seconds, after a pair of byes. Winningham, seeded fourth, earned a 6-4 decision over Hermiston’s Brock McDonough in the quarterfinals. Prior to that, he won via major decision over Glencoe’s Jacob Heninger in the first round and pinned McNary’s Jesse Gomez in 3:39 in the second round. The third-seeded Gillispie recorded a 9-0 major decision against Century’s JJ Perez in the quarterfinals after pinning Eagle Point’s Scott Martin in 3:42 in Round 1 and winning by fall in 28 seconds over Sweet Home’s Daniel Rooney in the second round. After a pair of byes, O’Neil won via sudden victory, 8-6, over North Medford’s Luke Mackey in the quarterfinal round. Brower will take on No. 1 Cody Fettig of Newberg and Winningham faces top-seeded Gary Jantzer of Marshfield today. Gillispie is set to wrestle No. 2 Bob Coleman of Hermiston and O’Neil has No. 1 Hayden Bates of Crook County. Crook County won the tournament last year. Roseburg was second.
