Eagles first-year head coach Rob Kleker, who was an assistant for his father Bob before taking over, had hoped for better in his team’s first outing. "We didn’t really look very good at all," Kleker said. "Yreka didn’t play that much better than us, we just played that poorly." Senior wing Salina Sychla led the Eagles’ offense with 13 points, including the team’s only three 3-pointers. Beth Logan added six points and six rebounds. Alina Jaycox and Kendra Carrie led Yreka with seven and six points, respectively. The Eagles, who lost both of their outings at the Crater Jamboree on Monday, made just 9 of 41 shots from the field. Advertisement Eagle Point was hindered by injuries to sophomore Terrah Whipple and Megan Sorrels, although both played in the season opener. Whipple had five steals. Sorrels is one of only a few returning varsity players, and Kleker is looking forward to having her back on the court full-time. "Especially with as young as we are, she would be somebody we could look to offensively and get after people defensively," he said. "Tonight I was disappointed, the kids were disappointed, and I think they will bring that to practice (today). Obviously, we have some work to do." The Eagles will try to rebound on Friday with a game against Summit in Bend. YREKA (29) — Carrie 6, Penbley 2, Caldwell 4, Jaycox 7, Ramirez 2, Wood 2, Hopkins 2, Salters 4. Totals: 11 5-8 29.
