Rule clear on passing from right I thought the law stated that you could only pass on the right if there was a lane, not a bike path or shoulder, wide enough to accommodate your vehicle. Is this true? Why doesn't the law just state that you can't pass on the right, except on roads with at least two lanes? -- Bob B., Jacksonville Actually, Bob, that's pretty much what the law says, according to John Vial, district manager for the Oregon Department of Transportation. He said the Oregon Driver's Manual states that drivers may not pass on the right if doing so will mean that any part of their vehicle is off the paved part of the highway, on a shoulder or on a bike lane.
