YMCA swimmers claim first in two different meets Erin Kulmac and Ashlee Rutter each claimed titles at the YMCA Pacific Region North Championships in Boise, Idaho, March 11-12. The two swim for the Rogue Valley YMCA Aqua Starz in Medford. Competing in the girls 13-14 age division, Kulmac placed first in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:10.14 and first in the 1,650 freestyle (19:54.26). Kulmac finished second in the 100 butterfly (1:05.57), fifth in the 100 backstroke (1:07.72), eighth in the 100 freestyle (59.85) and ninth in the 50 freestyle (27.55). Rutter touched the wall first in the 100 backstroke at 1:18.28 in the girls 10-under division. Rutter placed second in the 50 backstroke (36.78), third in the 200 freestyle (2:36.15), fourth in the 100 freestyle (1:11.37), seventh in the 100 individual medley (1:23.04) and 10th in the 50 breaststroke (44.07). In another meet, the Speedo SC 10-under Championships March 4-5, Melissa Ghiglieri paced the Aqua Starz. The 8-year-old placed first in the girls 8-under 100 IM (1:24.97), 50 breaststroke (43.86) and 25 breaststroke (20.83). Ghiglieri finished second in the 50 butterfly (40.89) and 100 freestyle (1:12.88). She also placed sixth in the 25 butterfly (18.91). Ghiglieri also helped the 8-under 100 medley relay team place seventh and the 10-under 200 freestyle relay team finish 16th. She was joined on the medley relay by Kinsey Parker, Judy Hawley and Amber Parker to finish at 1:27.10. Joining Ghiglieri on the freestyle relay (2:20.51) were Courtney Ellis, Lindsey Thomas and Courtney Nelson.
