He was born May 16, 1945 at Waldo Ball Maternity Clinic above Waldo Ball Photography studio in Corvallis, Oregon, the eldest son of John Allen Anderson and Barbara Elaine Fry. His family lived in Corvallis, Roseburg, Sheridan, and Salem. He graduated from North Salem High School in 1963 and Willamette University in 1967 with a major in economics and a minor in math. He received his master’s degree in economics from the University of Washington in Seattle. He felt very fortunate to enjoy his job career in his field of choice as a Labor Economist for the State of Oregon for 29 years, starting in Baker, Ore., and transferring to Medford, Oregon 1973, where he spent the remainder of his employment. John married Renee Marie Raskob February 23, 1974 in Salem, Ore. and enjoyed 41 years of life together. Their family of two, Brian and Krista lived in the same home in Medford all their growing years John served in the U.S. Army from 1968-1970. He was a man of integrity and deep love for his family. Krista and Ben Fogelson have given him an extra joy being Grandpa John to Naomi, Sarah, and Joseph. He loved working in the yard, reading, crossword puzzles, and genealogy, and had a memorable dry sense of humor. He exercised at Cardiac Rehab at Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center for 16 years following a six-way by-pass surgery in 1999, being a great encourager to all who came there to exercise. He was preceded in death by his parents and survived by his wife, Renee,son, Brian Anderson, and daughter, Krista (Ben) Fogelson, their 3 children and his brother, Tom (Elaine Seaberg) Anderson. A celebration of John’s life will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church Sunday, May 31 at 3 PM.
