Tucker, Jr. passed away Thursday, March 5, 2015 surrounded by his wife, daughters, and eldest granddaughter at Providence Medford Medical Center. He was 58 years old. Woodie was born March 28, 1956 to Connie and Woodie Tucker. Woodie grew up in the Rogue Valley and graduated from Phoenix High School in 1974. After graduating from high school, Woodie worked as a logger. On September 11, 1983, he was involved in a logging accident that left him a paraplegic. While a tragedy, Woodie didn't let his paralysis get in the way of doing the things he loved to do. One of his favorite sayings was, You ain't dying, so stop your crying! Woodie was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Woodie was known for his storytelling abilities, especially when it came to retelling the adventures of him and his friends, as well as his hunting and fishing expeditions. Often the stories got more exciting and the size of the fish he caught and deer/elk he hunted grew with each retelling. He earned the nickname, Turn Em Down Tucker, for his patience at waiting for the biggest deer/elk he could hunt. After the accident, Woodie went back to school and received a Bachelors Degree in civil engineering from Southern Oregon University and Oregon Institute of Technology in 1990. He worked as a civil engineer in the Rogue Valley and in Arizona. Woodie and his wife Rita, whom he married March 3, 1984, often went out for long drives with no particular destination. They enjoyed being outside, off the beaten path, and most of all spending time together. They often stopped at friends' houses on their drives just to say Hi and to share a story or two. Survivors in addition to his wife, include his mother, Connie Calhoun, Arizona; two daughters, Marie Tucker and Alisa Oakley (Brad) both of Medford; one brother, Ken Moore (Susie), Arizona; one step-sister, Margarette Milos, California; and four grandchildren, Laurel Abbey, Mary Abbey, Abbygail Oakley, and Brady Oakley. Woodie was predeceased by his father, Woodie, Sr.; stepfather, Tuffy Calhoun; and stepsisters, Margo and Margie. There is a Celebration of Life Potluck Luncheon that will be held from Noon-2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 28, 2015 at the Cultural Hall of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 111 Clay Street, Ashland, OR. There will be a time for sharing memories and guests are asked to bring a side dish to share.
