Neighborhood poll favors gravel road JACKSONVILLE � Pair-A-Dice Ranch Road will remain a gravel road after a poll showed that most neighbors were unwilling to help pay for paving costs. The city of Jacksonville mailed 35 letters to Pair-A-Dice Ranch Road and Morton Way residents asking how much they would be willing to contribute to the $400,000 paving project. Eleven neighbors responded, some saying they would not pitch in and others offering $1,000. One resident offered $20,000. "The project is in limbo right now," said Paul Wyntergreen, city administrator. "There�s no momentum to move forward." The city of Jacksonville agreed to pay $10,000, Jackson County would pay $100,000 and the two gravel pit operators would each offer $100,000, some of it in material, hauling and labor. The neighbors� portion would have been $90,000, or about $2,500 each. The road has been a source of contention for the 80 Westmont area residents who use it as access in and out of their neighborhood. It�s also the only way in and out of an aggregate mine that supplies rock and gravel for street and home construction in the Rogue Valley. The gravel pit operators last year added rock to Pair-A-Dice Ranch Road and began to water it to control dust, said resident Dean Paddison, who is a City Council member. "The rock has improved the road," Paddison said. "But ideally everyone wants to get it paved."
