Meth-laced quesadilla leads to probation Gustavo Plascencia-Soria Friday Nov 17, 2017 at 4:57 PM Nov 17, 2017 at 4:57 PM Nick Morgan Mail Tribune @mtcrimebeat A Medford man avoided a felony after admitting he served food laced with methamphetamine to a pre-teen girl. Gustavo Plascencia-Soria, 43, was sentenced to three years of supervised probation Friday in Jackson County Circuit Court after admitting to misdemeanor endangering charges after a 12-year-old girl under his care ate a quesadilla laced with meth. On June 18, Plascencia-Soria had been watching the girl and three other children for her mother, according to Senior Deputy District Attorney Allan Smith. When the victim's mother came home, she found her daughter acting "animated" and had dilated pupils. She remained in that state overnight. The girl was hospitalized the next morning, and doctors found methamphetamine in her system. In the ensuing investigation, the victim told investigators that Plascencia-Soria had made her a quesadilla that "tasted very strange." Clint Oborn, Plascencia-Soria's court-appointed defense lawyer, said meth accidentally got into the girl's food, and he said his client took responsibility right away. Circuit Court Judge Tim Barnack sentenced Plascencia-Soria to three years of probation on misdemeanor counts of recklessly endangering another person and endangering the welfare of a minor. As part of plea negotiations, a felony count of delivering methamphetamine to a minor was dropped. Neither the victim nor her mother attended the hearing. Barnack ordered no contact with the victim and her family, which included an apology letter Plascencia-Soria clutched during the video hearing from the Jackson County Jail.
