Crater romps past Grants Pass GRANTS PASS - With two wrestlers out with the flu, two sidelined by injury and another dealing with pink eye, Grants Pass has seen better days. Having the seventh-ranked Crater Comets come to town Thursday night certainly didn't make things any better. Crater (3-2 SOC) used five forfeits and three pins to romp past Grants Pass, 59-15, for its third straight Southern Oregon Conference dual-meet victory. "We've just got everything going on right now," Grants Pass coach Tim Satre said of his team's current state. "We're not real deep this year anyway. Some of our duals we push guys to weights there not supposed to be at but against Crater that's just not a good thing. If you do that against them, you're going against state qualifiers most of the time at any weight." When the Comets did get a match to wrestle, they handled matters quite nicely as Jeremy Firestone (112 pounds), Kyle Marci (135) and Ron Lee (152) each won by fall. Lee's pin was the most impressive, with the freshman taking down Trevor Knight, who placed second in the district last year at 145. "That was one that I was pretty concerned with," said Crater coach Greg Haga. "That one was important for the (district) seeding." Grants Pass (2-3 SOC) received its victories from Tom Martin at 160, Brian Alves (171) and Andrew Ditty (189). The Cavemen were without last year's district champion Joey Rossknecht, who is out for the season after tearing cartilage in his knee at the Rogue Valley Classic.
