Rooster Crow Run Saturday, June 25: The annual 5K run begins at 8 a.m. at Rogue River Elementary School's Beck Field. The course is flat, fast, paved and out-and-back. Fly casting at Hedrick Middle School Mondays: Otis Swisher and John MacDiarmid of the Rogue Fly Fishers will teach people how to cast with a fly rod Mondays from 6 to 7 p.m. at Hedrick Middle School, 1501 E. Jackson St., Medford. Both beginners and seasoned casters who want to practice are welcome. Free. No casting on rain days or holidays. Tutu Todd's 10-miler Saturday, July 2: This run is to honor the memory of Todd Ragsdale and to encourage people to run like Todd, by dressing in tutus and running Todd’s regular stomping grounds in Lithia Park. The 10-mile run will start at 9 a.m. at the Lithia Park Band Shell. Sign up at https://ultrasignup.com/register.aspx?did=39192 Every Kid in a Park BioBlitz Thursday, July 7: Fourth-graders who hold a free Every Kid in a Park pass can participate in a free BioBlitz event on Mt. Ashland from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event, hosted by the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest, Medford District Bureau of Land Management, Mt. Ashland, Oregon Caves National Monument, REI Medford, and the Siskiyou Mountain Club, will focus on finding and identifying as many species as possible in a specific area over a short period of time. BioBlitz events bring scientists, families, students, teachers and others together to get an overall count of the plants, animals, fungi and other organisms that live in a place. For more information, see www.mtashland.com/event/every-kid-in-a-park-bioblitz-2/?instance_id=268 Lithia Park nature walks Through September: Each Sunday, Wednesday and Friday at 10 a.m., trained naturalists from Ashland Parks and Recreation will lead an easy 90-minute nature walk through Lithia Park, rain or shine. The free walks touch on trees, flowers, birds, climate, water, geology and history of the park. Meet at the park entrance across from the Plaza in Ashland. No reservations required. KS Wild 'hike and write' Thursday, July 14: KS Wild and Squawking Hawk Acres will team up to offer a special Hike and Write evening to celebrate the beauty of the Klamath-Siskiyou region. A guided hike along the Rogue River will be led by Jeanine Moy of KS Wild, along with a facilitated writing session with Elizabeth Tobey of Squawking Hawk Acres. Dress for being outdoors, wear sturdy shoes and bring a water bottle, notebook and fast-writing pens. Snacks and drinks will be provided by the hosts. A carpool will leave from Northwest Nature Shop, 154 Oak St., Ashland, at 4 p.m. and return at 9 p.m. Sign up at http://kswild.org Siskiyou Velo Club Every Saturday: Velo Melo meets at various places and rides about 20 miles at 11 to 13 mph.
