Wun H. Tae, 39, of Rowland Heights and Lucy Y. Dean, 35, of Hacienda Heights, died from injuries sustained in the 10:36 p.m. crash near freeway milepost 47, according to Oregon State Police. Tae was headed south on I-5 in a Toyota two-door car when, for an unknown reason, the vehicle left the road and rolled several times in the freeway’s grassy center median, police said. Dean, who police believe was wearing a seat belt when the crash occurred, was pronounced dead at the scene. Tae was transported to Providence Medford Medical Center, where he later died, according to OSP. Police do not believe Tae was using a seat belt. Witnesses told police they saw the Toyota speeding and traveling "erratically" before the crash, OSP said. The investigation is continuing. Any witnesses who stopped at the scene of the wreck but left before police arrived are asked to phone OSP Sgt. Jeff Fitzgerald at 776-6114, Ext. 248. Oregon Department of Transportation and Rogue River fire crews assisted OSP troopers at the crash scene. Since June 2, five people have been killed in traffic crashes in Jackson County.
