If all goes as planned, Sonic Drive-In will be serving burgers and shakes to drive-up customers around late May or early June. Plans for the restaurant were submitted in August and approved in December. Central Point City Administrator Phil Messina said construction of the city’s newest eatery is well under way. On East Pine next to Umpqua Bank, the drive-in style eatery will be the only Sonic Drive-In in Oregon, but not the first. At least one Oregon town, Ontario, had a Sonic Drive-In until it closed. Advertisement The restaurant is known for its burgers, Coney Island-style hot dogs, shakes and its 1950s "car hop" atmosphere.
