Eagle Point captures Phoenix mat tourney PHOENIX -- Eagle Point welcomed back veteran coach Bob Bergen with a victory in the six-team Phoenix Tournament Friday night. The Eagles won six individual titles en route to piling up 60 points, eight more than runner-up Crook County. The Eagles also won five dual meets along the way, including victories over the sixth-ranked Cowboys and eighth-ranked North Bend. "It was a pretty good start," said Bergen, who led the Eagles to four state championships before moving on to Southern Oregon University. "Overall, we're in pretty good shape. We're still in transition, implementing my philosophy of a little more aggressive style." Freshman Morgan Edenstrom (103), Derek Jaramillo (119), Mike Lopez (125), Jamie Mannenbach (152), Evan Pogue (171) and Carlos Alvarez (215) were individual winners. Bergen was particularly pleased by freshman Edenstrom and transfer Jaramillo's performances. TEAM SCORES -- Eagle Point 60, Crook County 52, Douglas 37, North Bend 31, Phoenix 22, South Medford 14.
