Handmade wreath sale supports students and more By Morgan Rothborne Nov 30, 2022 05:11 PM A A Jacksonville’s Garden Club will sell holiday cheer for a good cause from 10 a.m to 3 p.m. Friday, Dec 2, as part of a decadeslong tradition. In the alcove outside the post office, 175 N. Oregon St., Jacksonville, garden club members will offer wreaths, candle arrangements, baskets, swags and more as part of their annual fundraiser. “I’ve been with the garden club 20 years, and they’ve been doing it longer than I’ve been here,” Peggy Peffley, member and organizer of wreath preorders said. She advised arriving early for the best shopping, stating in past years exuberant attendees often show up before club members even have time to get the trucks unloaded and set up their wares. “The best stuff — you gotta be the early bird as they say,” she said. The wreaths they buy, she explained, but members of the garden club gather to decorate them by hand. Peffley was proud to say her club features some creative people. The candle arrangements, baskets and all else are the work of dedicated people looking forward to the sale and its power as a fundraiser. “All the money we make goes right back into the community, except for we got to buy some stuff,” she said. In past years, money raised from the wreath sale went to scholarships for students majoring in agriculture or horticulture, or for beautification projects around Jacksonville.
