SCHOOL SECURITY Threatening phone call prompts lock-in at Phoenix High School MailTribune.com Writer Posted Sep. 9, 2014 @ 2:58 pm Updated Sep 9, 2014 at 5:47 PM Posted Sep. 9, 2014 @ 2:58 pm Updated Sep 9, 2014 at 5:47 PM » Social News Phoenix High School locked its doors Tuesday afternoon because of an anonymous phone call from a man who stated there would be a school shooting in the afternoon, police said.  The phone call came in at the school's front office at about 1:39 p.m., a Phoenix Police Department news release said. Once a school resource officer cleared the inside of the building and police searched the outside premises, classes were held as normal, with an increased police presence outside, the release said.  During the lock-in procedure, Phoenix-Talent School District Superintendent Teresa Sayre said, "It's all a safety precaution to make sure our students are safe." Inside the building, which no one was permitted to exit or enter during the lock-in, students continued about their normal school day, Sayre said.  "We promptly sent out a notice to all of our parents," she said. Students were released at the end of the day, though not all at once, so police could react more efficiently if any violence did erupt, the release said. Anyone with information about the identity of the man who made the threat is being asked to contact the Phoenix Police Department at 541-535-1113, ext. 0.  — Sam Wheeler MailTribune.com Writer Posted Sep. 9, 2014 @ 2:58 pm Updated Sep 9, 2014 at 5:47 PM » Comment or view comments Reader Reaction » STAY INFORMED Email NewsLetter Sign Up Today Sign up for our newsletter and have the top headlines from your community delivered right to your inbox. calendar Connect with MailTribune.com Facebook Twitter RSS Back to top Reader Services Reader Services Home Subscriptions Subscriber controls Contact us Submissions Photos Events Letters to the editor Corrections Announcements Obituaries Story ideas Since you asked Alerts Email Alerts RSS Feeds Text Alerts Advertise Media Kit Home Products and services Ad rates Advertising contacts Mail Tribune Daily Tidings The Nickel Shop Our Valley Blogs Stay Informed Email newsletter Sign Up Today Sign up for our newsletter and have the top headlines from your community delivered right to your inbox.
