North blanks Crater in non-conference tilt CENTRAL POINT - Crater's softball team had the look of a team that battled through a 15-inning marathon win only 24 hours prior when the Comets took on North Medford in a non-conference game Wednesday afternoon. Not surprisingly, the Black Tornado took advantage in earning a 2-0 triumph as the Southern Oregon Conference squads attempted to gear up for Monday's first round of the state playoffs. "We were a little tired and it showed today," said Crater coach Chris Arnold, whose team sewed up the SOC's No. 3 seed with Tuesday's 2-1 win over Grants Pass. "We came out a little stale and North is not the kind of team you can do that with and expect that you're going to win." Both North runs were unearned, with Laura Tarkon drawing a walk and then making her way around the bases with a stolen base, wild pitch and illegal pitch by Jenni Bittle. The Tornado's other run came off another walk, this time to Corey Whitaker, and a passed ball that scored Megan Lamson. Keri Sevano struck out five and combined with Krystal Young to limit Crater (18-8) to hits by Kelsey Anhorn and Crystal Huntley. Darcy Cordell doubled for one of North's three hits, with Brandi Paxton and Whitaker adding singles.
