March's exhibits feature handcrafted jewelry by Rogue Valley designer Carol Sharp at Art du Jour and mixed-media collage by Medford artist Arlene Warner at Rogue Gallery. Award-winning watermedia paintings by Lane Hall will be held over through March at Art du Jour, and "Meditations on Daily Splendor," an exhibit of artwork by local artists Sarah F. Burns, Sarah Fagan and Karen Rycheck, will be displayed until Friday, March 25, in the main gallery at Rogue Art Center. A new exhibit in the Rogue's Community Gallery, "Bits and Pieces: Mixed Media Collage of Arlene Warner," will be displayed through April 1. Warner's pieces explore color, texture and atmosphere, and her images are created and revealed through layers of paint and paper. The pieces overlap the past with the present by using scraps from everyday life, such as pages from handwritten notebooks, packaging materials, book pages, stamps, maps and other ephemera. Warner worked as a graphic designer for more than 30 years before becoming a mixed-media and collage artist about five years ago. Her design sensibility and aesthetic strongly influence her interpretive art pieces. In the main gallery, Burns depicts florals and still-lifes with traditional oil paintings. Ordinary objects are painted with reverence and precision in Fagan’s acrylic paintings, and Rycheck creates elegant abstract mosaics in organic slate. A reception for the artists will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 18, at the Rogue Gallery, 40 S. Bartlett St. Wine, cheese and snacks will be served. See www.roguegallery.org or call 541-772-8118 for information. Sharp will be the featured artist at Art du Jour Gallery. A master jeweler, Sharp is a busy artist whose work is in demand. She and her husband, Bob Sharp, a silversmith and lapidarist, travel around the country to attend gem, mineral and jewelry shows. Their combined artistry will be displayed at Art du Jour before it once again is taken on the road with its creators. Carol Sharp is a lifelong artist. Professionally, she expressed her talent for art and design through her work as an interior designer. She also pursued various art forms, including painting, collage, ceramics and scrimshaw, some of which will be on display at Art du Jour during March. She has devoted the past 10 years to designing jewelry, creating an extensive line of handcrafted adornments with her husband. Each piece uses gemstones, crystal beads, shells, pearls or other natural elements. “Sharing my love for art is exciting. I teach classes in crocheted wire jewelry, and Bob teaches silversmithing," Sharp says.
