The synopsis became available online Wednesday at the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife's site at www.dfw.state.or.us on the Web. Point-of-sale licensing outlets throughout Oregon began receiving paper copies of the synopsis this week. Outlets should have copies of the free synopsis by Friday evening, according to the ODFW. The synopses come with a quick reminder that Oregonians have until the end of next week to apply for various tags for early game-bird seasons and bow hunts. General bow season begins Saturday The deadline for buying this year's bow tags for controlled and general season is Aug. 25. The synopsis is not required to be used to apply for tags Advertisement Here is a run-down of several of the upcoming application deadlines and drawings. Controlled fall turkey — Applications for all controlled fall turkey hunts in eastern Oregon is Sept. 12. Results of the drawing will be available Sept. 20. This is separate from the first-come, first-served offer of 3,000 tags in western Oregon for the fall season. That season runs Oct. 15 through Dec. 31, and hunters again are limited to one tag per fall season. SAGE GROUSE — The permit application deadline for the controlled sage grouse hunt is Aug. 28. Results will be available Sept. 1. The season will run Sept. 9-17. KLAMATH wildlife area — The state-run Klamath Wildlife Area now is taking applications for one-day reservations for game-bird hunting. Application deadline is Sept. 16. Sauvie island wildlife area — Applications are due Sept. 11 for drawing a space in the first waterfowl hunt period on the state-run wildlife area along the Columbia River. The first waterfowl hunt period includes the opening day of duck season Oct. 14. u The Rogue Valley Flyfishers Association is hosting its annual Catch-and Release Steelhead Tournament on Sept. 23 along the Rogue River. The nonprofit group now is accepting entries to the tournament as well as club members to sign up as oarsmen for the event. The group also is soliciting items for the auction that accompanies the fund-raising tournament. In the tournament, participants fish out of driftboats in two-person teams. Anglers fish all day with barbless flies and all caught fish are released after they are measured. First- and second-place prizes will be awarded for the largest steelhead caught as well as the most collective inches of steelhead caught that day. Cost is $150 per person, which includes a continental breakfast and an evening buffet dinner after the tournament. The Rogue Flyfishers earlier this year earned recognition by the Federation of Fly Fishers as the Chapter of the Year in Oregon. The club won the award in part for all the volunteer work it has done to improve wild fish habitat in the Rogue Basin.
