After posting on the resort’s Facebook account Wednesday morning that a small fire damaged the lodge, owner Scott Lamb told The News-Review Friday that the insurance company had ruled the lodge a “100 percent total loss.” An early morning flue fire ripped through the sloping, A-frame structure that has sat on the property since 1962. Lemolo lake is about 10 miles north of Diamond Lake, off of Highway 138 “The structure is still standing,” Lamb said, who has owned the lodge with his wife for the past 13 years. “The State Fire Marshal determined it was a flue fire and they’ve already released the building to us so we can start demo-ing it and everything.” Lamb said he and his wife were at their house in Lincoln City when his general manager called around 6:40 a.m. to tell him the lodge had caught fire. While they were en route to the lodge near the northwest corner of Lemolo Lake, Lamb said the resort received a call from the local media asking about the fire. “At the time my wife was thinking that she’d downplay it a little bit in the media so we could at least see (the lodge) and know what we were dealing with,” Lamb said. At 11:22 a.m. Wednesday, a post on the resort’s Facebook page said, “We had a small fire in the lodge today but everything is operating as usual. The media as usual is making things worse than it really is.” Today, Lamb said the resort’s lodge was completely charred and that the first floor’s ceiling was beyond repair and that the fire had poked through to the second story. “We lost half a million worth of stuff in that building,” he said. “I lost a five-generation stamp collection with 800,000 postage stamps and a vast Indian arrowhead artifact collection.” Lamb confirmed that the resort is operating as usual, with the lodge’s office space being moved to an old gas station building nearby.
