Does the Eastern Oregon town of Seneca hold some kind of temperature record for the state of Oregon? — Curt K., Medford According to the Oregon Blue Book almanac for 2015 and 2016, published annually by the Oregon State Archives division of the Secretary of State's office, the town of Seneca is one of two towns that share Oregon's record for the lowest recorded temperature — of minus-54 degrees — which occurred in February 1933. Ukiah was the first town to record the temperature when it plunged to unfathomable territory Feb. 9 of that year. The town of Seneca joined Ukiah in the record book a day later, Feb. 10. While we're talking about temperature records, we might as well point out that the record for hottest temperature in the state is also shared by two towns, according to the almanac. On July 29, 1898, Pendleton recorded a high temperature of 119 degrees. On Aug. 10 of the same year, Prineville hit the same mark of 119 degrees.
