Phoenix wrestlers roll past Henley, Rogue River PREP WRESTLING PHOENIX -- The Phoenix High wrestling team continued to roll Thursday with a dominating Skyline Conference dual meet performance. The Pirates pasted Henley, 63-6, and Rogue River, 64-9, leaving their coach Harry Mondale pleased but reserved about their fast start. "The kids are wrestling surprisingly well for this time of the year," said Mondale. "I just don't want us to peak at such an early stage in the season." Four out of the first five Phoenix wrestlers against Henley pinned their opponent, with John Mason providing the only points for the Hornets after a forfeit win at 114 pounds. In all, the Pirates had nine pins. Sophomore Justin Fleming, competing in his first year of wrestling, started Phoenix off on the right track in the Pirates' next match against Rogue River by pinning Nick Colter. Fleming also pinned his opponent at 105 against Henley. "Justin would have to be our most improved wrestler," said Mondale. "He has improved by leaps and bounds so far this season." Phoenix's Joel Bath, Tyler McCarty, Brandon Sousa and Keanon Ferguson also pinned both of the opponents they faced over the two contests. "Everyone did a credible job for us tonight," said Mondale. "I just want to see us wrestling at the same level when it comes time for districts."
