Truck thief eludes police after chase Aug 22, 2016 12:00 AM A A Local report Police came up empty-handed after chasing a stolen pickup truck from Grants Pass to Gold Hill early Sunday. According to Grants Pass police logs, the owner of the truck, who lives in the 1000 block of Madeline Way in the Redwood District, heard the Toyota Tacoma drive off around 2 a.m. Sunday. City police officers located the truck and followed it on Cloverlawn and Fruitdale Drive, but dropped the pursuit at some point on Rogue River Highway, according to Sgt. Dennis Ward and verified by logs. The truck ended up on Rogue River Highway, and Interstate 5 southbound, where Oregon State Police picked up the pursuit and followed it toward Gold Hill. At Gold Hill, the truck headed east on Blackwell Road, and state troopers put out spike strips near the Tolo Tavern. The suspect ditched the truck four miles out on Upper River Road, which loops from Gold Hill along the Rogue River. No one was apprehended. Further details from OSP were not immediately available.
