Eagle Point routs Ashland in dual meet ASHLAND - Despite resting most of its varsity lineup, the Eagle Point wrestling squad picked up eight pins en route to a 64-6 Southern Oregon Conference dual-meet win over Ashland on Thursday. Ashland's Adam Khosroabadi won a decision over Farley Holden, 14-7, to start the match at 112 pounds, but it was all down hill for the Grizzlies from there. Eagle Point's Matt Leonardo needed only 1:07 to pin Josh Smith at 119, and Steve Hammond (125) followed with another pin. At 130, Brock Olson pinned Josh Firth in 28 seconds. "It was a chance to get some younger kids some experience," said Eagle Point coach Brad McBee. "It also gave us a chance to rest some of the varsity kids for the Coast Classic (in Bend) this weekend." With Anderson insistent on playing a zone defense, Ashland's Bryan Clevenger made four 3-pointers on consecutive trips down the floor in the third quarter as the Grizzlies (2-2) pulled away. His teammates, Lance Wright and Chris Presicci, had set the tone with three long shots in the second period that helped forge a 34-22 halftime lead. Clevenger scored 21 points, and Lance Streng, in his finest outing, had 16 points, seven assists and three steals to lead the Grizzlies. Isaac Wright added 11 points and 11 rebounds. Matt Burt's driving layup gave the Crusaders a two-point lead with 20 seconds remaining, but Marshall answered with four seconds remaining. Thatcher Jones led St. Mary's (3-2), which plays McKinnleyville today, with 26 points, and Michael Fiddler added 23 on 11-of-14 shooting. Marshall scored 29 for Hoopa, including four 3-pointers. Hidden Valley (0-4) led 27-23 at the half but was outscored 45-28 in the second half. Chris Cushman led the Mustangs with 15 points. Swimming ASHLAND SWEEPS - At Ashland, Brad Scoles and Jim Freeman each won two boys events and Michelle Smith did likewise for the girls as Ashland swept a three-way meet against Eagle Point and South Medford. Scoles claimed the 100 freestyle in 49.21 seconds and the 200 individual medley in 2:11.22. Freeman won the 200 and 500 frees in 2:25.75 and 6:19.09. In the girls meet, Smith won the 50 and 100 frees in 26.87 and 59.29. South Medford's Leani Leoffler won the 100 fly 1:07.49 and 100 breaststroke in 1:24.14.
