Morgan, Rogues romp past Elks Aug 02, 2014 12:00 AM A A BEND — Striking with five runs in the top of the third inning, the Medford Rogues West Coast League baseball team distanced itself early in a 9-5 triumph over the Bend Elks at Vince Genna Stadium on Friday. The win snapped a two-game losing streak for the Rogues (23-23 WCL), who claimed the first of a three game series against the Elks (26-20 WCL). The Rogues are third in the South Division Standings, trailing the second-place Elks by three games and leader Corvallis by seven. Joey Morgan went 2-for-4 — both hits were doubles — with three RBIs and a pair of runs scored for Medford, which stretched its lead to 8-2 after the five-run frame. The Rogues came out with three runs in the first inning. Seth Smith added a run-scoring double for the Rogues and Adonis Morrison went 2-for-4 with a run scored. David Peterson improved his record to 5-1 after throwing five innings. He gave up three earned runs on seven hits and a walk to go with five strikeouts. ASA Softball COMETS ELIMINATED — The Central Point Comets were dispatched from the ASA 14B Western National Tournament title hunt at U.S. Cellular Community Park on Friday. Huntington Beach of California handed the Comets a 7-1 defeat in the loser-out bracket a day after the Comets pulled off a shocking upset of the tournament's top-seeded squad, Escondido of California. In their second game of the day Thursday, the Comets were sent to the loser's bracket after falling to the TABU Scramblers.
