Rogue Valley COVID-19 cases flat, deaths down By Vickie Aldous Updated: Jul 14, 2022 04:33 PM A A COVID-19 case counts continued on a relative plateau in the Rogue Valley over the past week, and the Oregon Health Authority reported no new COVID-19-related deaths in Jackson or Josephine counties. OHA reported 484 new cases in Jackson County during the past week, for a daily average of 69.1 cases. For Josephine County, OHA reported 186 new cases over the past week, for a daily average of 26.6 cases. Rogue Valley hospitals were caring for 51 patients with the virus Wednesday, according to hospitalization data. For the whole state, OHA reported two COVID-19-related deaths for the past week and 9,921 new cases, for a daily average of 1,417 cases. Hospitals across Oregon were caring for 458 patients with the virus, according to hospitalization data. The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention continued to list both Jackson and Josephine counties in the high risk category for COVID-19. The CDC looks at a mix of case counts, new COVID-19 hospital admissions and the percentage of hospital beds occupied by patients with the virus to determine community risk levels in counties. It does not consider death counts. During high risk conditions, the CDC recommends wearing a mask indoors in public, staying up to date with COVID-19 vaccines, getting tested if you have symptoms and taking additional precautions if you are at high risk for severe illness. Neither the federal nor state governments are mandating masks in public indoor settings, except Oregon does still require masks in health care settings.
