Read Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Nov. 25, 2014 at 2:00 AM Posted Nov. 25, 2014 at 2:00 AM » Social News Steve Read, 64, of Ashland, Ore. passed away Saturday, November 15, 2014, with his wife and son by his side. Steve was born February 6, 1950 in Franklin, Pa. to James and Lois Read. His family moved to Tuscon, Ariz. where he grew up with his brother and sister. Steve moved to Klamath Falls, Ore. in 1976 where he briefly worked on the railroad, then transferred to Ashland in 1977 where he met his wife, Ellie. Steve and Ellie played music together and in various bands from 1978 to the present. They married in 1980 and had a son, Jesse, in 1981. Life couldn't get any better. Along with being a musician, Steve worked for Musician's Friend for 23 years. He developed an Artists Relations position and hosted many contest winners to big-name concerts such as B.B. King, Fleetwood Mac, and John Mayer. Steve also was Salesman of the Year two years in a row. Steve was an avid racquetball player. Steve died cancer-free and Hepatitis C-free. He spent the last year of his life helping others with their cancer. He was a real fighter and had a passion for life, love, and friendships. He is survived by his wife, Ellie; son, Jesse; grandson, Dari; father, Jim (Kay); and brother, Dick. He was preceded in death by his sister, Cindy and his mother, Lois. A Celebration of Life is scheduled from 2:00-5:00 p.m. Sunday, November 30, 2014 at the Ashland Elks Lodge.
