Mustangs use big 10th to down Roseburg By Mail Tribune staff Updated: Jun 09, 2021 09:49 PM A A baseball ROSEBURG — The Medford Mustangs exploded for seven runs in the top of the 10th inning to break 2-all tie and claim a 9-2 American Legion AAA win over the Roseburg Doc Stewart’s Wednesday. The Mustangs (8-1) sent 12 batters to the plate in the 10th. Tanner Douglas, who walked to begin the inning, scored what proved to be the game-winning run on a Roseburg error. Zac Ankeny, who also walked, scored on a groundout, then Josh Baptiste made it 5-2 on an infield single to second base. Before the inning was over, Darin Marsh and Douglas had also recorded RBIs. Roseburg forced extra innings a half-inning earlier when it scored a pair of runs on an Evan Corbin RBI single and a Mustang error. Medford starting pitcher AJ Balsiger allowed just two hits and no runs in 5 2/3 innings. Gavin Schmidt, who came in to relieve Balsiger in the sixth, picked up the win. Eli Westrick gave the Mustangs a 1-0 lead in the top of the seventh when he scored on a wild pitch. Medford doubled its lead two innings later when Westrick scored on a sacrifice fly to left off the bat of Cody Borraggine. Westrick recorded three of the Mustangs’ nine hits and scored a pair of runs, while Baptiste finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Borraggine was 2-for-5 with an RBI and run scored.
