Kleker's Eagles swept visiting Grants Pass, 26-24, 25-20, 25-20, in a nonconference match despite the notable absence of Erin Hedrick (out 3-6 weeks with an ankle injury) and middle hitter Hannah Mason (day-to-day with shoulder soreness). "It's a great win for us," Kleker said. "As far as how inexperienced we are and the injuries, it's huge. I'm really proud of the way the kids played and the way we finished." Alyssa Brown had 27 assists, Angie Kalivas finished with 10 kills, Rilee Jefferson added nine kills and Kristin Wyatt had eight kills for Eagle Point (2-2). The Eagles' McKensie Re contributed 19 digs and 17 service points while Lacey Hulla had 14 service points. Sophomore Jonnie Loper, called up from the junior varsity, filled Mason's spot admirably with five kills. "She stepped in and played very well for her first varsity start," Kleker said. Eagle Point opened the first set with a 13-2 lead but had to hang on for the victory. Grants Pass was called for a delay violation with the set tied 24-24. That resulted in a point for Eagle Point, which clinched the win after a passing error by Grants Pass. "That was a huge confidence boost," Kleker said. The Eagles reeled off five straight points in the second set with it tied at 20. Jefferson had two kills and Wyatt one during that stretch. Eagle Point held at least a three-point cushion through nearly all of Game 3, and Jefferson finished it with a strong hit down the line. Karissa Bennett led Grants Pass (0-1) with five kills and four blocks. Jacque Cox, in her first game as libero, was 85 percent passing and 8-for-8 serving. HENLEY 3, NORTH MEDFORD 2 — North Medford started strong and dominated the net but was unable to overcome 31 hitting errors in a five-set loss to Henley, 25-22, 18-25, 17-25, 25-13, 10-15. Andrea Egge led the Black Tornado with 14 kills and five aces, while Jaci Abeloe added 11 kills. Both Egge and Abeloe were consistently set up by McKenzie Smith, who had 26 assists. Hillevi Johnson had 21 digs to lead a North Medford defense that was strong all night, especially in the first and fourth games. CRATER 3, NORTH VALLEY 0 — At Central Point, the young Crater team earned its first win of the season in a tightly contested match, 25-21, 26-24, 25-17. Taylor Mackey, a junior outside and captain for the Comets, had seven kills and 16 digs. Junior setter Kayla Hopkinson chipped in 15 assists, and sophomore libero Dennae Grant had 13 digs. The Comets are 1-1. ROSEBURG 3, ASHLAND 0 — At Ashland, Roseburg improved to 7-0 by defeating Ashland 25-16, 25-21, 25-12 in a nonconference match. Roseburg's Devan Belshe had 18 kills and six digs, Cadee Kinne added 13 kills and Katlyn Powers recorded nine kills and six digs. Courtney Hutchins had 26 assists and Lynsey Johnson had 23 assists. Ashland (5-6) was led by Taylor Hartrick and Niki Small, who each had six kills. Drew Van Vleck had 14 assists.
