http://www.omniture.com --> Email Story to a Friend June 29, 2006 Patriotic vehicle has been under attack in Ashland By ALAN PANEBAKER for the Mail Tribune ASHLAND — David Fagan's flamboyantly patriotic Hummer H2 has endured a rain of ketchup, ice cream and disparaging comments. In the most recent attack, someone put a hole through the windshield. The American flag motif on the vehicle, which also bears a large advertisement for his mortgage company, has created a small stir since he moved to Ashland two months ago. Fagan's business is in Medford, and he travels around the region, often leaving his Hummer parked on Ashland's Siskiyou Boulevard. When it's parked in Ashland he said people leave angry notes or pelt the SUV with food. Most recently, vandals started tearing off one of the vehicle's rear panels. Sunday night someone put a hole in its windshield. "I thought it had died out," Fagan said of the vandalism. Fagan has been on the "Rosemary and Garth Harrington" conservative radio talk show on KCMX, and was recently on JPR's liberal "Jefferson Exchange" with Jeff Golden. Most of Fagan's radio time happened at the beginning of the month. He received a plethora of complaints and criticisms, and after a week or so of tranquility, he thought things were becoming more relaxed. However, the recent damage has made him rethink his decision to move to Ashland. "The bottom line is it only happens in Ashland," Fagan said. An example of a note left behind: "your vehicle is everything that's wrong with this country." He said people tell him it represents greed and selfishness. Golden is no fan of Fagan's Hummer, but said vandalizing Fagan's automobile doesn't help anyone. "It (vandalism) just locks everybody in, and we get in this downward spiral," Golden said, adding that he hopes Fagan remains in Ashland. For now, the Hummer is getting fixed. Fagan said he has an invitation to drive it in Eagle Point's Fourth of July parade. He hasn't decided whether he will drive it in Ashland's parade or elsewhere, but said it will most definitely be expressing patriotism somewhere on Tuesday's holiday.
