COLLEGE SOCCER Southern Oregon, College of Idaho settle on 1-1 draw MailTribune.com Writer Posted Oct. 12, 2014 @ 2:00 am Posted Oct. 12, 2014 @ 2:00 am » Social News ASHLAND — A game that started with 79 sleepy minutes turned hectic in a hurry Saturday night as the Southern Oregon University and College of Idaho women’s soccer teams settled on a 1-1 draw at the conclusion of two extra periods at Raider Stadium. Haylee Eckart scored in the 80th minute for the Raiders (4-8-1, 3-2-1 Cascade Conference), and Jessica Whitehead answered a little more than five minutes later for the Coyotes (6-3-3, 3-0-2). C of I, which was the CCC’s last-place team in 2013, remains one of the conference’s two unbeatens. Eckart nearly changed that by herself less than five minutes after checking in for the first time in the second half. After winning the ball back for SOU in a one-on-one challenge, she took it toward the goal and gathered from about 14 yards deep for a left-footed, left-to-right screamer that zipped over keeper Brittany Houghton’s outstretched arms. The equalizer was set up by Summer Jackson’s 22-yard free kick from straight on. Jackson’s shot was stopped by SOU keeper Devon Walker, but Walker fell over in the process, and the bounce back to Whitehead left her with a point-blank chip shot. The extra periods resulted in 10 fouls, two cards, two shots on goal for each team and several breakaways that never quite materialized into concrete scoring opportunities. Presley Lambert was active around the goal all night for the Raiders, getting off a match-high seven shots with two on goal and two near-misses in the first extra period. Both teams fired 15 shots. SOU had seven on goal and C of I had six. The Raiders have allowed exactly one goal in every conference match with the exception of Thursday’s, a 1-0 win over Eastern Oregon. They’ll be on the road for the remainder of the regular season, going first to Portland for matches next Thursday and Saturday at Concordia and Warner Pacific.
