For just $5, Jackson County residents can drop off hazardous waste materials from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Rogue Transfer & Recycling Station, 8001 Table Rock Road, White City. The charge covers the first cubic yard, which is six 32-gallon trash cans filled level full of hazardous waste. Items that are acceptable to bring include: cleaning supplies such as window cleaner, drain cleaner, bathroom cleaner and any products containing bleach or ammonia; old pesticides and insecticides; swimming pool chemicals; weed killers not currently approved for use; old paint removers; old or toxic wood preservatives; light ballasts; batteries and thermostats containing mercury. Items that are not acceptable include: oil-based or latex paint, fluorescent light tubes, medical or biological waste, explosives, radioactive materials, ammunition, anti-freeze, commercial or industrial waste, asbestos, 55-gallon drums, propane tanks, metal canisters or fire extinguishers. In addition, Rogue Disposal & Recycling Inc. cannot accept waste in containers larger than five gallons. Local recycling or safe disposal options are available elsewhere for paint, fluorescent lights, medical or biological waste, asbestos, anti-freeze and propane tanks, organizers said. An on-site chemist will evaluate the items dropped off and identify what is still usable. Those items will be available for free for people who can use them. For more information, please visit Rogue Disposal’s website at www.roguedisposal.com , or contact Denise Barnes at 541-608-1023.
