http://www.omniture.com --> Email Story to a Friend June 26, 2006 Valley heat is just shy of a record This weekend's sweltering heat created trouble for firefighters and paramedics. Emergency calls reporting grass fires and heat-related health issues rose as the temperatures climbed, officials said. But although Sunday's 105-degree ceiling was unseasonably warm for June, the triple-digit temp was two degrees shy of the 107-degree record set in 1987, said Meteorologist Rick Holtz of the National Weather Service "We got close," he said. If Sunday missed the mark by a bead of sweat, today's forecast should be one for the record books, he said. Monday's predicted high of 108 ought to top the current 103 record, also set in 1987, he said. "We should be able to bust it," Holtz said.
