GP girls win golf tournament Mar 19, 2011 12:00 AM A A Mackenzi Guthrie showed some major improvement at the Crater Spring Break Challenge girls golf tournament Friday. The Crater High junior shot a 92, 13 strokes less than her previous outing, in the four-team event at Centennial Golf Club. Grants Pass had the only full squad and won the event. Reedsport sophomore Monica Vaughn, last year's Class 4A/3A/2A/1A state champion, was the tournament medalist with a 1-over par 73. Vaughn chipped in for two birdies on the back side. Softball GRANTS PASS 5, SPRAGUE 2 — At Grants Pass, Lindsey Carpenter sparked a four-run inning and pitcher Grace Marsh earned a season-opening victory in the nonconference game against the Salem school. Carpenter opened the Cavers' four-run, fourth inning with a single and eventually scored on a passed ball. Rashaun Sells smacked an RBI double and Marsh followed with a run-scoring single. Marsh pitched a complete game, allowing three hits and striking out three. Carpenter had two hits for the Cavers.
