GANG-RELATED SHOOTING Medford drive-by shooting suspect linked to Portland shooting Man still on run, should not be confronted, authorities warn Comment By Mark Freeman Mail Tribune MailTribune.com By Mark Freeman Mail Tribune Posted Aug. 3, 2015 at 8:27 PM By Mark Freeman Mail Tribune Posted Aug. 3, 2015 at 8:27 PM » Social News A teenage man accused of being the lone gunman in a gang-related, drive-by shooting early Thursday in West Medford that left an 18-year-old woman injured remained on the lam Monday, and police had no good leads as to his whereabouts, authorities said.  Geno King, 19, who also has ties to Redding and was linked to a December gang shooting in Portland, "obviously knows he's wanted" in connection with the Medford shooting that investigators believe was payback for a beef King had with at least one of his alleged targets, Medford police Lt. Mike Budreau said Monday. While police publicly identified King as their suspect Saturday and social media buzzed around the case all weekend, investigators weren't sure if King was successfully hanging low in the area or has fled the region, Budreau said. "We don't have any (intelligence reports) as to his whereabouts," Budreau said. Still, police warn anyone who has information on King to telephone police and not confront the man if spotted. "Based on what he's been involved with in Portland and what he's been involved with here, I think he is very dangerous," Budreau said. Budreau said the two camps were in rival gangs but he did not name those suspected gangs nor would he elaborate Monday on the dispute between the two groups. Investigators believe King was a passenger in a grey or beige sedan who at 1:37 a.m. fired shots from a handgun into a group in a duplex parking lot on the 400 block of South Columbus Avenue. The victim, who police believe was not the intended target of the shooting, was treated at a local hospital and released for a gunshot wound to the leg. Budreau said King allegedly fired "a handful" of shots at the group, but he declined to be more specific. Initially, investigators believed a second handgun was used to fire shots at a house across the street, but suspected bullet holes in that house turned out not to be bullet-related, Budreau said. Also, a shell casing of a caliber different than the gun King was believed to have used was found near the scene, and it was later determined that it had nothing to do with this case and that no shots were fired at that house, Budreau said. King was already facing forgery charges here for allegedly passing counterfeit bills, court records show. He was also convicted on a felony gun charge in March stemming from the investigation into a Dec. 12 drive-by shooting in Portland during which four people were injured, court records show. Four days after that shooting, police found King driving a vehicle with one of the shooting suspects in it and King fled the car after he crashed it on Interstate 5 near Portland during an elude attempt, according to a police affidavit filed in that case. King fled on foot but was discovered and arrested a month later as a passenger in a car that contained a loaded handgun at King's feet. King pleaded guilty in Multnomah County Circuit Court to a single count of unlawful possession of a firearm and was sentenced to two years' bench probation and ordered not to associate with gangs or gang members, court records state.
