The weekend comedy lineup Comics offer irreverent looks at life Sharon Lacey and Pete Young will present comic takes on life and its absurdities this weekend. The show starts at 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9, at Ground Zero, 123 S. Front St., Medford. Cover is $5 and includes a buffet-style dinner. Lacey is the show's opener. She works as a middle school teacher in Portland and is a fresh face on the comedy scene. Lacey has been performing in clubs all over Portland, Seattle, Tacoma, Spokane, Eugene and Medford, and she was a finalist in the KATU TV Portland Amateur Comedian Competition in 2006. She takes an irreverent look at her profession as a teacher, previous jobs, motherhood and life in general. Advertisement Lacey is planning to take a year off from teaching to pursue comedy. Young has worked in comedy since 2002. He's also based in Portland and performs in clubs around the country. His show is PG13-ish with various rants, including about how he was kicked out of WalMart. Young grew up in Medford and is a graduate of South Medford High School. Call 779-4827 to reach Ground Zero. Jimmy Turner and Martha Marion will hand out the funny punch lines at Chadwick's Pub. Shows start at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Feb. 9-10, in the pub and sports bar at Rogue Regency Inn, 2300 Biddle Road, Medford. Admission to shows at Chadwick's costs $5. Turner evolved from the fat kid that used to get beat up in high school to a comedian and writer. He's takes his life experiences as a nerd and humor-filled dork stories to stages in clubs all over the country. But his days of taking wedgies aren't quite over; he just got his first colonoscopy, he says. Marion credits her parents for her sense of humor. They moved their daughter around the country to be sure she would be funny — to be absolutely certain they lived in places like West Virginia, Arkansas and Indiana, she says. Marion actually began her career in Chicago, where she studied at Northwestern University. She performed in and directed the university's first improvisational group, The Mee-Ow Show. Then one day she took the train into the city for an open mic session. Today she is based in Los Angeles and plays the best clubs in Southern California, including the Hollywood Improv, The Ice House Comedy Club in Pasadena and the Comedy Store. Marion was a finalist in the 2006 California's Funniest Female Competition and the Uncle Clyde's Comedy Contest. Call 282-2122 to reach Chadwick's Pub. Would you like to respond to this story?
