Gold Hill hires ex-Talent administrator GOLD HILL -- The city council has hired a former Talent city administrator as city recorder/treasurer. Tony Paxton began work Monday. He replaces Carolyn Marks, who moved to Seattle. Paxton will receive a monthly salary of $2,200, said Tim Roddam, Gold Hill mayor. Paxton has been a private consultant and interim city manager. He was interim manager for the city of Vernonia for three months and the city of Waldport for six months. He and his wife, Vicki Paxton, own and operate Magic Stitches, an embroidery shop in Grants Pass. Paxton was city administrator in Talent from 1986 until 1996, when the Talent City Council fired him for failing to keep track of the city's budget, which was $100,000 in the red for the 1995-1996 fiscal year. The city borrowed $80,000 to balance the budget. Paxton originally moved to the Rogue Valley from Minnesota, where he was born and raised. He graduated with a degree in business administration from Bemidji State University. "I enjoy working in the smaller towns," Paxton said. "They seem to be friendlier.
