LAW ENFORCEMENT Transient jailed after allegedly taking guard's gun in fight Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted May. 12, 2016 at 8:36 PM Posted May. 12, 2016 at 8:36 PM » Social News A transient male is in jail after he allegedly took a gun from a hotel security staff member and threatened the guard with the weapon, authorities said Friday. Steven Ronald Valencia Jr. allegedly engaged a security guard in a fight after he refused to leave a restroom at Inn at the Commons at approximately 12:40 a.m. Thursday. Valencia took the security guard's handgun during the fight, threatened the guard and pointed the weapon at the guard. Valencia then fled the scene with the gun, according to police. A Medford detective found Valencia lying down at 12:45 p.m. Thursday behind a business in the first block of East Stewart Avenue, where he was arrested without incident and the weapon was recovered. A video camera worn on the security guard's body and evidence left behind at the scene helped identify Valencia as the suspect, police say. Valencia was arrested on felony charges of first- and second-degree robbery and first-degree theft. He was lodged in the Jackson County Jail Thursday on more than $2 million bail.
