It is truly a "lone pine." — Bob C., Medford It is a lone pine, Bob, but apparently not the "lone pine." The school is named for the lone ponderosa pine that stands in front of the campus. Principal Rich Miles said it is not the original tree. The first one died in 1946 and was replaced by the Forest Service in 1948. The Southern Oregon Historical Society says the area was originally called Red Top because of the color of the original school roof.
