Sales have been slow. I'm challenging previous pass holders to step up and buy their passes for next season. I understand people may be hesitant after the past two poor snow years. It is more important than ever to support the mountain if you would like the resort to survive. Why do I think that is important? This past season I taught my friends' 9-year-old girl how to ski. I saw a light go on in Ava's eyes as she felt the joy of the sport. She will now be a life-long skier. Thousands of you can relate to that experience of teaching a young person a new, positive activity. Mount Ashland has provided that for several generations over the past 50 years. It gives youngsters empowerment and confidence. It helps teach them about the outdoors and the incredible part of the planet we inhabit. It is also a wonderful family sport. My hope is that the ski area will be here long after I am gone so the generations to come can enjoy the mountain and the sport. Pete Toogood Ashland Support Lightheart When one looks at the roster for the candidates for the School Board, there are several names that should be considered. One is Janet Lightheart. She is a parent of six children, four of whom attend Medford schools. She has returned to college to get a master's degree in education. Janet understands what is happening at all levels of education, as she has volunteered at every level. She is a caring person, who believes in the philosophy of giving children experiences that will keep them in school. Janet is active as a musician, supporting music in school and church. All great qualities for a school board candidate! Support Janet Lightheart with your vote. And vote! Voting is vitally important in this election. Doris and Lynn Sjolund Medford A healing use I was saddened to see the "no no no" headline in the MT regarding the proposed rehab center in Dr. Young's former home and spiritual center on Butler Creek. A rehab center would be such a healing use of this facility. I believe that the attitude of these "neighbors" contributed to our community's loss of Dr. Young, a gifted hand and plastic surgeon. When Ashland Greenhouse, a longtime Ashland community business, relocated to the Butler Creek area, there were large signs in nearby yards proclaiming that the nursery was not welcome. Perhaps the Butler Creek neighbors should try practicing a little Christian neighborliness. Jack Eagleson Medford Nice people The night of April 18, I took my wife to Rosario's restaurant for an 87th birthday dinner celebration, which was very nice. As we were there, some folks at the next table said how nice it was to see an old couple having such a nice time. As I was calling for our check to pay for our meal of approximately $50, the waiter said our check had been paid by the man at the next table. How very nice, such a blessing that there are wonderful folks as these. C.S.
